An understanding of the impact of dementia and how to support and communicate with those living with it can make a huge difference. The purpose of this presentation is to increase awareness of dementia and help build empathy and a better understanding of this affliction, how it affects our communities and an individual's role in helping to enhance the quality of life for those living with it. At the completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

Employ positive and appropriate communication approaches for working with people with dementia

Identify practical tools and techniques to support people with dementia and their families

Express a clear understanding of dementia and its causes

Describe the stigma of the disease that affects our communities and the individuals living with dementia

Instructor Bio:

Jayda Bruscoe has been the director of Community Relations at Armbrook Village since January 2023. She has worked in the assisted living industry for about three years and is also a certified dementia practitioner. She attended Merrimack College where she graduated with her bachelor's degree in Business Administration with concentrations in both Marketing and Management, as well as a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. Bruscoe grew up in Western Massachusetts and takes great pride in her current work with the aging population. She is looking forward to continuing to help older adults maintain their quality of life and independence.

Julie Waniewski has been the executive director at Armbrook Village since January 2023, and prior to that she was the director of community relations for about seven years. She grew up in Feeding Hills, Mass., and currently resides in Springfield with her husband Russ. She attended Bentley University and has a bachelor's degree in Business Management. She is also a certified dementia practitioner. Her passion for helping our elders live their best life, coupled with a grandmother who had dementia, drove her decision to enter the assisted living Industry. She also has an extensive career in hospitality, property management, retail, and residential and commercial leasing.
